Sogna sits at the heart of a triangle formed by Siena, Florence and Arezzo. While Florence is spectacular, the crowds can also be overwhelming. Siena and Arezzo are just a few of the Tuscan cities that are a great alternative for days trips if you want to be in cities. There are numerous small towns like Cortona and Pienza which made for a manageable day trip usually involving a long lunch. Tuscany is world renown for its wines, particularly its reds and visiting Montalcino and Montepulciano or the various Chianti villages like Gaiole, Radda, Greve, and Castellina make for fantastic days. There are also a number of old Roman hot springs such as Bagno Vignoni, Rapolano Therme or Saturnia.
While well-known destinations can be nice, don’t forget to visit any number of local towns as a place to rent a bike and explore the countryside, there are lots of options and bike stores will be happy to suggest possible routes based on how energetic you’re feeling. One area you might consider is the Val d’Orcia, a world heritage landscape, as a place to spend a day exploring by bike or car.
